How often is the person who receives the communication blamed
for failing to understand or follow the information?
Everyday we come up against difficult or challenging situations, both at work and within our private lives. These challenges are often around dealing with change, managing our own expectations and those of others we live with, our clients, the colleagues we work with, and the people we work for.
In business, leadership remains the top talent issue facing organisations around the world. Studies and surveys tell us that leadership is critical to business success, and yet finding or developing effective leaders is proving to be one of the biggest challenges faced by business owners today.
"The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been"
HENRY KISSINGER
After all, our competition is always looking for ways to lead better and change with the times, and so must we. The rewards for the journey are worth it. Rewards such as the development of high emotional intelligence (or EQ), building and sustaining relationships, and transforming the way we think, act and see the world.
Develop your emotional intelligence, your leadership qualities and harness the power of modelling excellence as you inspire others to become future leaders.
"Leadership is all about emotional intelligence.
Management is taught, while leadership is experienced"
RAJEEV SURI
A leader is not necessarily a Manager. It is, of course, possible to be both, or to be one without being the other, however the distinction is clear.
Management is about controlling, allocating and directing people and resources to achieve an outcome. These individuals may be very capable, highly skilled, in fact great at their jobs and a real asset to the business - but that does not necessarily make them effective leaders, just outstanding managers. And a manager who doesn't have effective leadership skills, can bring down a business very quickly without effective leaders to support them.
Leadership is about having emotional intelligence, flexibility and judgement to choose the right course of action to resolve challenges and to provide us - and others affected - with the best possible outcomes.
Leaders take responsibility for making considered decisions and taking action that is ecological - that is, good for them, good for their colleagues and good for everyone who might be impacted. They help themselves and coach others to take positive action. Through leading by example and modelling their flexibility and positive attitude, effective leaders inspire others to follow. And they can then encourage and build leadership potential in other team members.
"When the best leader's work is done the people say "we did it ourselves"
LAO TZU
